Porinchok wins firstplace spots in field

COLVILLE — The Spartan Track and Field Team had a good outing at Colville’s Ezra Gordon Invitational on Saturday, March 28. Eight of the 11 Priest River athletes competing had lifetime or season bests. While the other three didn’t achieve a lifetime best, they competed at a high level, all three with top 11 finishes at the meet.

Leading the way for the Spartans was Niki Porinchok with 20 points and Ian Lamanna with 16. Porinchok won the discus and shot put both with new personal bests his throw of 162-feet, 4-inches in the discus breaks his own school record of 158’5” and shot pot 48-feet, 6-inches. Lamanna won the pole vault at a height just under his personal best, with his second-best vault ever. Lamanna also ran a great race in the 200-meter finishing third. Daniel Gunkle placed fifth in the 3200-meter.

For the girls, Ashlyn Korf had a great day with season bests in both the long jump and 100-meter. Haylee Jepson scored a sixth-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles.

“Even though it is spring break and we’re battling some illness, we continue to improve,” coach Jared Hughes said.

Next up for the Spartans will be a Spring Break meet at Deer Park on Friday, April 3.
