OROVILLE – The Oroville Hornets won both games in a non-league doubleheader with Cusick Friday, April 3 at Oroville, taking the first game 13-3 and the second game 8-7.

Cusick was up 2-1 going into the bottom of the third inning when Oroville punched in 8 runs. They closed out the game in the fifth inning with a 4-run effort. Oroville batters had a dozen hits, including a grand slam home run.

Nick Sandwick got a hit for the Panthers, as did Daniel Lyon, David Lyon and Thomas Sullivan.

In the second game things went better for Cusick with the game tied 6-6 going after four innings. Cusick score in the top of the fifth to get the lead, but the Hornets scored two in the fifth for the win.

Cusick next plays a doubleheader against Republic at home Tuesday, April 14, with the first game starting at 2 p.m.

Spartan baseball at home Saturday, Monday

PRIEST RIVER – The Priest River Spartan baseball team has a home doubleheader with Orofino Saturday, April 11 and a game with St. Maries Monday, April 13. The first Orofino game starts at 11 a.m. and the St. Maries game at 2 p.m. On Friday, April 10, the Spartans go to Orofino for a game that starts at 4 p.m.

Priest River took on Newport and Riverside Tuesday, April 7 after The Miner’s deadline.

Selkirk beats Curlew at home

IONE – The Selkirk boys’ baseball team split a pair of Northeast 1B North league doubleheader games at home Tuesday, March 31. The Rangers lost a close first game 15-13 then came back with a big 16-6 win in the second game.

Selkirk next plays Republic at home Friday, April 10, a doubleheader, with the first game starting at noon. Tuesday, April 14, the Rangers go to Curlew for another doubleheader, with the first game at 2 p.m.

Spartan golfers take first

BONNERS FERRY — The Priest River Lamanna High School golf team placed first at an open earlier this week.

Monday, April 6, the Spartans visited Mirror Lake Golf Course in Bonners Ferry, with Priest River varsity players placing first overall.

“We’ve got a good start to the season,” Priest River coach Christopher Martin says. “We had a beautiful day with the weather and everything.”

Mason Crump and Nate Fegert led Priest River with scores of 83. Following were Parker Bradbury with 90, Madden Redinger with 91 and Dawson Strange with 93.

“Our JV also went today, and they did really well,” Martin says.

The Spartans next visit Circling Raven Golf Course in Worley at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 9. Next week, they return to Mirror Lake Golf Course for a dual match-up at 10 a.m. Monday, April 13.
