Newport has strong showing at Glenn Wolf

DEER PARK – Newport High School track and field athletes continue to crack the top spots at area meets and the Glenn Wolf Invite at Deer Park on Friday, April 3 was no different.

For the boys Jonathan Hill won first place in the 400-meter race with a personal record of 51.8. The boys’ 4x100 relay team placed third with a seasonal record of 45.68. The relay team includes Lucas Croswhite, Aidan Kramer, Dax Hansen and Kale Markwardt. Damien Hamberg won second in shot put throwing a PR of 43-feet, 10-inches, third in javelin with 131-feet, 3-inches and Rayben Jurgens won second in discus with 140-feet, 9-inches. Lucas Croswhite took second place in javelin at 139-feet, 3-inches and third in pole vault at 13feet.

For the girls Olivia Collins won second in the 3200-meter race with a time of 12:22.95, third place in the 1600-meter with a SR of 5:49.23 and Joelle Brandtner won first in the triple jump with an SR of 33-feet, 4.75-inches and she took third in the long jump with an SR of 15-feet,1inch.

“It was just an overall good meet,” coach Levi Litowitz said. “We had PRs and top placings in all disciplines. We had about 40 PRs/SRs, and 11 top three placings, very proud of our athletes.”

Other notable results included Elijah Sattleen in the 1600-meter at 5:17.41, just over 10 seconds from his PR and 11:59.26 in the 3200, over 12 seconds from his PR. Logan Rheinford clocked in at 7:00.57 in the 1600-meter, over 56 seconds from his PR and Savannah Garris achieved a PR of 6-feet in the pole vault.

There were 28 schools that competed, but the meet was not scored overall.

“Now that spring break is here our athletes can get some rest for the toughest part of the season coming up and through the post season,” Litowitz said.

Next up, Newport hosts the NE2B/1B League Meet Wednesday, April 15 at 3 p.m.
