Spartans grab gold at Glenn Wolf

DEER PARK – Many of the athletes on the Spartan Track and Field Team stayed around for spring break and attended the Glenn Wolf Invite in Deer Park on Friday, April 3. Ian Lamanna improved his personal best in the pole vault to 14-feet, 1-inch for the gold medal, just 5-inches off the school record and currently the top 3A and third best jump for all classifications in Idaho, according to coach Jared Hughes.

He also ran a personal best in the 100-meter race to finish third out of 113 runners.

Niki Porinchok continues to dominate in the throws, winning first place in both the shot put and discus. Hughes said Haylee Jepson had a great day in 300-meter hurdles finishing fourth. Gunnar Pettit returned to action with a fifth-place finish in the pole vault.

“While we didn’t have any other scorers, out athletes continue to improve with 11 of the 14 athletes competing achieving at least one season or lifetime best,” Hughes said. “Our athletes continue to improve and impress.”

Next up for the Spartans will be a short trip to Sandpoint on Saturday, April 11 for meet at 10:30 a.m. Priest River travels to Post Falls for a meet Tuesday, April 14 at 3:15 p.m.
