Cusick baseball away at Oroville
CUSICK – After the spring break, Cusick baseball was back in action at home against Republic Tuesday, April 14. Friday, April 17, the league leading Panthers (5-1, 5-3) head to Oroville for a rematch with the first game of the non-league doubleheader starting at noon. Oroville dealt Cusick two of its losses earlier in the season.
Blanchard woman on championship wheelchair team
TUSCON – Elizabeth Flock of Blanchard is on the University of Alabama’s women’s wheelchair basketball team that earned their sixth consecutive national title and 12th in program history last Saturday at the National Wheelchair Basketball Association intercollegiate tournament in Tucson, Arizona.
UA won 55-37 against the University of Texas at Arlington — the same team they’ve defeated the last three years to win the NWBA Intercollegiate National Championship.
Grizzly soccer faces a bunch of birds
NEWPORT – The Newport boys’ soccer team hosted Colville Tuesday after the Miner’s deadline. Results from that game will be in next week’s newspaper. The Lakeside Eagles comes to Newport for a game Thursday, April 16 at 6 p.m., then Newport travels to Clarkston for a soccer match with the Bantams Friday, April 17 at 4 p.m. The Medical Lake Cardinals and Newport will face off at home Tuesday, April 21, also at 4 p.m.
Selkirk, Cusick competes at Newport, on the road
NEWPORT – Selkirk and Cusick track and field teams will join their neighbors in South Pend Oreille County to compete at the NE2B/1B Meet at Newport High School Wednesday, April 15 at 3 p.m. The Rangers and Panthers travel to Cheney for the Van Kuren Invitational Saturday, April 18, 9 a.m., followed by the District 6 1B League Meet Tuesday, April 21 at Valley Christian School at 2:30 p.m.
Spartans get gold at Lake Pend Oreille Invite
SANDPOINT – Priest River Track and Field took home gold from the Lake Pend Oreille Invitational Saturday, April 11 at the David R. DeMers Track and Field Complex. Senior pole vaulter Ian Lamanna was just two inches shy of the school record with his gold-medal vault of 14 feet, 4 inches — a new personal best by three inches. Lamanna was also third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.62 and junior Gunnar Pettit grabbed a silver medal in the 400-meter dash with a new personal best time of 53.76 seconds for the Spartans, which finished tied for fourth out of eight scoring teams.
Priest River traveled to Post Falls for a meet Tuesday after the Miner deadline. The Spartans head to the Rasmussen Invite in Coeur d’Alene Friday, April 17 at 1 p.m., followed by the Pasco Invite Saturday, April 18 at 9 a.m. Bonners Ferry will host Priest River Monday, April 20 (TBA).
