Grizzlies come from behind to beat Rams

NEWPORT – The Newport Grizzlies (1-5, 4-6) baseball team was trailing 12-10 going into the bottom of the seventh inning against the Riverside Rams (1-4) Tuesday, April 7 at Newport. But Newport batters came through in that last inning, with Kole Keogh hitting a three-run double to secure the win for Newport.

The game was close, with the lead changing several times. Newport scored in the first inning but fell behind when Riverside scored four runs in the top of the third inning. Newport took the lead back with three scores in the bottom of the fourth, up 5-4. The Rams had another fourrun inning in the fourth to regain the lead, which they kept until the last inning.

Keogh went 3-for-5 at bat, with the double and the 3 RBIs. Kutter Driver hit a homer. Jordan Baumbauch had three hits, including a double, to go with 3 RBIs.

Newport used four pitchers in the game, Nathaniel Shaw, Keogh, Baumbach and Carter Brandter, with Brandtner credited with the win.

The Grizzlies also played Priest River the same day, falling to the Spartans 11-0. Newport batters were shut down by Priest River pitching, only getting two hits in the six-inning game, both coming from Keogh.

Newport went the Davenport (1-5) Tuesday, April 14 for a game. Saturday, April 18 they play Davenport again, this time in a doubleheader in Newport, with the first game starting at noon. Tuesday, April 21, they Grizzlies are at home again against Reardan at 3:30 p.m.
