BRIEFLY Register for sourdough class this Saturday

PRIEST RIVER — There is a ‘Sourdough Made Easy’ class Saturday April 18, 11 a.m. at Priest River Library.

Forget about all the fussy sourdough recipes that measure in grams and create more stress than they’re worth. Come learn an easy method for making sourdough bread that produces loaves without the hassle of timers and scales. There will also be recipes for what to do with the sourdough “discard.”

There will be taste testing and participants will take home sourdough starter for later use. Because of this, class size will be limited.

There is no cost for the class. Open to ages 14 and up. Contact the library to register at 208-448-2207.

Free showing of Zootopia 2

NEWPORT — There will be a free showing of “Zootopia 2” in honor of Earth Day at the Newport Roxy on Wednesday, April 22. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Concession prices still apply.

The first Earth Day was held 56 years ago on April 22, 1970, started by Wisconsin Senator Gaylor Nelson. He was inspired by the growing environmental movement and the visible effects of pollution. It was estimated that 20 million Americans participated in that first Earth Day, making it one of the largest one-day protests in the United States.

As a result, President Richard Nixon’s Administration spearheaded several landmark initiatives, including the Environmental Protection Agency, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and Endangered Species Act.

The event is sponsored by Pend Oreille County Democrats and We are The Community Umbrella.
