KELLOGG – Priest River Spartans baseball went to Kellogg Friday, April 17, where they handily beat the Wildcats 9-2.
Priest River (10-2, 6-3) led throughout, up 4-0 before Kellogg (2-14, 2-6) scored 2 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Spartans tacked on 3 runs in the fifth inning and 2 more in the sixth.
Brayden Elder pitched all seven innings for the Spartans, striking out eight and walking three. He gave up 2 earned runs.
Spartan sophomore Karsen Garvin was 3-for-3 at the plate and stole a base, one of eight stolen bases for Priest River. Elder had two stolen bases. Colton Kuprienko hit a double that drove in two runs. He also had a stolen base, as did Broden Collins, Dave Findley, Jacob Best and Brady Hatten.
Garvin was 3-for-3 at bat, with an RBI. Best went 2-for-3, with 2 RBIs. Hatten had an RBI with his single hit.
The Spartans are in second place in the 3A Central Idaho Leage, three games behind Orofino and three games ahead of St. Maries.
The Spartans hosted Kellogg Tuesday, April 21. Wednesday, April 22 they go to St. Maries (3-7, 3-6) for a doubleheader that starts at 2 p.m.
Districts start Wednesday, April 29.
