SPOKANE - Five Newport High School seniors were honored at the 34th Annual Spokane Scholars Foundation for Excellence banquet Monday, April 20. The Grizzlies were part of 165 students nominated by their schools for their academic knowledge in English, fine arts, math, science, social studies and world languages.

The Spokane Scholars recognizes students in Spokane County for their academic achievements. Part of the Newport School District is in Spokane County.

Newport nominees include Megan Lindor, Spokane Scholar in Science; Emmalee Doughty, Spokane Scholar in World Languages; Cooper Ericksen, Spokane Scholar in Mathematics; Grace Newlun, Spokane Scholar in English; and Alyssa Dibble, Spokane Scholar in Fine Arts. Ericksen was named the $2,000 scholarship award recipient in mathematics.
