PRIEST RIVER — The Priest River Spartan baseball team got a 15-11 Central Idaho League win over Kellogg at home Tuesday, April 21. They then won the first game of a doubleheader at home against St. Maries 15-5 before losing 4-1 in the second game.
The Spartans have a 12-4 overall record and are second place in the league with an 8-4 record, behind Orofino, which is undefeated in league play.
Broden Collins hit a double against Kellogg, as did Karsen Garvin.
The Spartans had 14 stolen bases, led by Phillipe Paschetag and Layton Goins, who each had three steals. Collins pitched four innings, striking out seven batters.
Against St. Maries, the Spartans put the game away in the fifth inning with scoring 6 runs. Collins was 3-for-4 at bat, with two doubles. Garvin and Jacob Best also hit doubles. Both went 2-for-3 at the plate. Best pitched, striking out 10 and allowing 2 earned runs.
In the second game, St.
Maries had a 2-run inning from which the Spartans couldn’t recover. Collins Garvin and Brayden Elder got the only Priest River hits.
The District playoffs start Wednesday, April 29. Priest River will host Kellogg for a game that starts at 4 p.m.
