Grizzly soccer Thursday

NEWPORT — The Newport High School soccer team (1-12-0, 0-1) fought a losing battle, 8-1, to Northwest Christian (7-30, 1-0) in an away game Thursday, April 23.

“NWC did what they do,” coach Nick Tucker said. “They are a very talented and fast team, especially at the wings.

Their speed wore us down throughout the game.”

Earlier last week the visiting Medical Lake Cardinals defeated the Grizzlies 2-0 in a nonleague match on Tuesday, April 21.

“Medical Lake was a hard-fought game,” Tucker said. “We were missing two senior starters, one of whom is a captain, but still managed to keep it competitive, losing 2-0.

Missing those key players gave young players, like Zac Brandtner, Kyler Wright, Trenden Ellison, and Noah Crabtree a chance to really shine.”

Newport hosted Riverside Tuesday, April 28 after the Miner deadline.

Coming up, the Grizzlies are scheduled for a game at Colville Thursday, April 30 at 4 p.m.
