SPOKANE — Newport track and field athletes continue to take top spots in area meets, including the Mooberry Relays at Rogers High School Saturday, April 25.
For the boys Lucas Croswhite won another first in pole vault, clearing 14-feet, first in 110 Hurdles at 15.06, and second in the 100-meter race with a personal record 11.25. The 4x100 relay team of Croswhite, Kale Markwardt, Dax Hansen and Aidan Kramer had a personal record at 44.52, earning them third place.
The Newport girls’ team saw Olivia Collins win second in the 3200-meter, clocking in with a seasonal record of 12.15.58. Joelle Brandtner won third in the triple jump at 33-feet, 3.5-inches.
“It was a fun meet with some pretty big personal records,” coach Levi Litowitz said via email. “We are starting to get into post season, so it’s a good time to be seeing significant PR’s and movement in league standings.”
Grizzlies had several new personal records with Malik Kennett running the 110-meter hurdles at 18.57; Damien Hamberg throwing discus at 129-feet, five-inches; Nathan Donati threw the javelin 126feet; Sophia Peaker finished the 3200-meter with a time of 13:13.91; and Savannah Garris threw the shot put at 27-feet, one-inch.
Overall, Newport boys placed eighth out of 24 schools and the girls’ team placed 11th.
Next up, the Grizzlies travel to NE2B League Championships May 5 at 1 p.m. at Liberty High School.
