NEWPORT — The Create Arts Center is preparing for a busy month.
Carl Rey and Truck Mills are returning for a concert at 6 p.m. Saturday, May 9. Harmonicas and strings will fill the center. The two blend world music with blues, jazz and Americana. Advance tickets are $15, at the door $20, with students free.
A new class Saturday, May 9 is the youth drama workshop with Alexi Alfieri for ages 10–14 from 1–3 p.m. The workshop will feature drama games and stage skills; no acting experience is necessary. The cost is $15, pre-registration required.

Women’s fellowship hosting tea party
NEWPORT — The Newport Chirstian Women’s Fellowship will be hosting a Potpourri Tea Party Friday, May 15, from noon to 2 p.m. at the Newport Community Church at 430 W. Third St. in Newport. Andrea Fountain, a certified soul care practitioner will be speaking on the topic of Regulating Your Emotions.

Priest Lake Library holding events
PRIEST LAKE — Coming up in May at the Priest Lake Library are several events, all free to the public.
The monthly board meeting is at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 12.
The library will have a booth at the Spring Festival in Coolin Saturday–Sunday, May 23–24. Get information on the summer reading theme and pick up a gently used book.
Needle Nuts meets at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 9. This is a lap craft circle with some knit and crochet supplies provided, though people may want to bring their own. This is a self-guided activity.
Adult Art Day is at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 20. This is a free program for participants aged 18 and up. Donations are appreciated. It is asked that participants do not bring children.
The Priest Lake Book Club meets at 10 a.m. Friday, May 8. Call the library for more details.
Story and Craft Time for children is at 11 a.m. May 12, 19 and 26. Snacks are also included.
Minecraft is at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, May 14. Computers are supplied, but in limited quantity. No experience is needed.
Junior Program Airplane Day is at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 26. All supplies are provided.
Dungeons and Dragons is at noon Friday, May 29. New players are welcome, and no experience is necessary.

Master Gardeners teaching about pollinators
NEWPORT — The WSU Pend Oreille County Master Gardeners invite community members to attend a gardening class, “Creating a Honeybee and Pollinator- Friendly Garden,” at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 14 at the WSU Extension Office, located at 227 South Garden Avenue in Newport.
Guest speaker Tracy O’Brien, owner of Willow Wood Honey Farm in Priest River, will present practical strategies for designing and maintaining gardens that support both managed honeybees and native pollinators. Drawing from firsthand experience, Tracy will share insights based on methods she and her family have found successful in the Inland Empire region.
The presentation is suitable for beginner gardeners, seasoned plant enthusiasts and anyone interested in enhancing pollinator habitat at home. Attendees will also have an opportunity to win one of several door prizes at the conclusion of the session.
