Three running for PUD commissioner

NEWPORT – As of Tuesday, May 5, three people have filed to run for the Pend Oreille Public Utility District commissioner, a position currently held by Curt Knapp. Jerry David Bradbury, Ernie Hood and Tracy Rutt are seeking election to the nonpartisan position, according to the votewa. gov website.

People have until the end of the business day Friday, May 8 to file for office. Positions that have more than two candidates will appear on the Primary Election ballot. The Primary Election is Aug. 4. Positions with two or fewer candidates will proceed to the General Election Nov. 3. In Washington, the two candidates who get the most votes advance to the General Election, regardless of party.

Except for Pend Oreille County Assessor Jim McCroskey, all county incumbent elected officials have filed for reelection. Newport city council member Nathan Longly has filed to run for county Assessor.

Robert Rosencrantz has filed for reelection to the district 2 position on the county Board of Commissioners, Glenn Blakeslee for county Sheriff, Dolly Hunt has filed for reelection as county Prosecutor, Marianne Nichols for Auditor, Nicole Dice for Treasurer and Tammie Ownbey for county Clerk. All are running as Republicans.

Robin McCroskey is seeking reelections as District Court Judge, a nonpartisan position.

Two people are seeking election as 7th Legislative District state senator, a position currently held by Shelly Short, R-Addy. Short has yet to file but has indicated that she will.

David Swoap of Tonasket is running as a Republican and Ronald L. McCoy of Chewelah is running as an Independent for election as state senator.

State Reps. Andrew Engell, R-Colville and Hunter Abell, R-Inchelium, have filed to run.

There are seven candidates running for 5th District U.S. Representative. Incumbent Michael Baumgartner is the sole Republican as of Tuesday. Carmela Conroy, who lost to Baumgartner two years ago is running again as a Democrat. Bajun Mavawalla and David Womack are also running as Democrats. Ann Marie Danimus, Nate Powell and Matthew Hayes are running as Independents.
