Spartan golfers win districts
PRIEST RIVER — The Priest River Lamanna High School golf team won the 3A District 1-2 Championship title for the second year in a row Monday, May 4 at The Links Golf Club in Post Falls.
Nate Fegert placed fourth with a 9-over-par 82, while Dawson Strange tied for fifth place with an 11-over-par 84, according to the Bonner County Daily Bee. Parker Bradbury scored 92, Mason Crump 95 and Mason Fenderson 94.
In total, the Spartans scored 352, followed by Kellogg with 354, Logos with 363 and Wallace with 370.
The top four teams, alongside the top 10 individual boys and top six individual girls, advanced to the 3A State Championship tournament Monday, May 11 to Tuesday, May 12 at Scotch Pines Golf Course in Payette.

Last Chance
LAKESIDE — The Cusick Track and Field team won top spots at the Lakeside Last Chance meet Thursday, May 7 at Lakeside High School. Junior Richard Sandwick won first place in the1600-meter race at 4:45.19 and fifth in the 800-meter race, finishing at 2:09.63. Eighth grader Marshal Eveland placed ninth in the 400-meter, clocking in at 59.46. Freshman Zach McGuire was right behind in tenth place at 1:00.10. The boys 4x400 relay team of James Lilya, McGuire, Marshal Eveland and Taim Dayoub won third with a time of 4:18.38.
Cusick attended the NE 1B Sub-District Qualifier at Valley Christian School Tuesday after the Miner Newspaper’s deadline. After that, it’s off to the 1B District 6 Championships at Valley Christian School Wednesday, May 20.
Rangers on the road
IONE — The Selkirk Track and Field team attended the NE 1B Sub-District Qualifier at Valley Christian School in Spokane Valley Tuesday, May 12 after the Miner Newspaper’s deadline. Results will be in next week’s newspaper. After that, Selkirk heads to the 1B District 6 Championships, also at Valley Christian, Wednesday, May 20 at 2 p.m.
Cusick baseball fourth
CUSICK — The Cusick Panthers baseball team lost both their games last week, finishing in fourth place in the Northeast 1B tournament and missing a chance at state.
Waterville-Mansfield got a 10-0 win in the first game Tuesday, May 5 at Chewelah.
“We had a terrible day,” Cusick coach Franklin Pemberton says. “We watched a lot of third strikes. If you don’t swing the bat, you’re not going to win.”
That put them with Garfield- Palouse Saturday, May 9 in a loser-out first game at District 5/6 1B. Cusick got six hits that game and committed no errors, but Garfield-Palouse had 15 hits, closing out the game in the sixth inning. Evan Suess got two hits for Cusick. Daniel Lyon, Judah Sutton, Nick Sandwick, and Thomas Sullivan each got one hit.
Cusick finished the season with a 10-7, 10-2 record, the best in the Northeast 1B North conference.
