Spartan softball ends without league win

PRIEST RIVER — Despite a couple close games, Priest River softball team ended their season without any 3A Central Idaho league wins.

Tuesday, April 28, Priest River (3-17, 0-12) visited St. Maries (4-10, 3-9) for a doubleheader, losing game one 5-3 and game two 12-11.

Game one, St. Maries hit their first 2 runs in the second inning. Priest River came back with 2 runs in the third inning, and St. Maries took back 1 run in the fourth inning. Both teams scored another run in the fifth inning, but St. Maries maintained their lead with 1 more run in the sixth inning.

Heather Stumm led Priest River with two hits and 2 RBIs. McKinley Burgess-Duquette followed with one hit and 1 RBI.

Game two, Priest River took an 8-run lead in the first inning, leaving St. Maries behind with only 2 runs. After Priest River hit another run in the second inning, St. Maries made a comeback in the third inning, outscoring Priest River with 4 runs. St. Maries hit another 2 runs in the fourth inning, outscoring Priest River again by 1 run. Priest River scored another run in the fifth inning, before St. Maries hit 4 runs between the sixth and seventh innings, ending the game just 1 run ahead of Priest River.

Burgess-Duquette led Priest River with 3 RBIs and one hit. Stumm added 1 RBI and one hit, Eila Smith 1 RBI.

Wednesday, April 29, Priest River hosted St. Maries and lost 14-4.
