NEWPORT – Incumbent 7th Legislative District state Sen. Shelly Short, R-Addy, has three challengers. Independent Ronald L. McCoy of Chewelah, Republicans Brandon Ray Medina of Brewster and David Swoap of Tonasket are also running for the position.
Brandy Parker Warren filed to challenge incumbent Robert Rosencrantz for Pend Oreille County commissioner, district 2. Both are Republicans.
There are three candidates for Pend Oreille Public Utility District commissioner seat currently held by Curt Knapp, who is not seeking reelection. Gerry David Bradbury of Newport, Ernie Hood of Newport and Tracy Rutt of Usk, have filed for the non-partisan position.
Nathan J. Longly of Newport is the sole candidate for Pend Oreille County Assessor. Incumbent Jim McCroskey is not seeking reelection.
Longly, like all the candidates for partisan county offices, is Republican.
Incumbents Marianne Nichols, county auditor, Tammie Ownbey, county clerk, Glenn Blakeslee, county sheriff, Dolly Hunt, county prosecutor and Nicole Dice, county treasurer, are the only people who filed for their respective offices.
Robin McCroskey of Newport is the only candidate who filed for the nonpartisan District Court position. Thomas Franklin Webster of Colville is the only candidate for Ferry, Stevens and Pend Oreille County Superior Court Judge.
For 7th Legislative District Representative, incumbents Andrew Engell, R-Colville, and Hunter Abell, R-Addy, are also unchallenged in their bids for second terms to return the state House.
That’s not the case in the 5th Congressional District, where incumbent U.S. Rep. Michael Baumgartner, R-Spokane, has 11 challengers – six Democrats and five Independents. Democratic candidates include Carmela Conroy, Bajun R. Mavalwalla, Michael McGarr and Kevin Fagan, all of Spokane, David Womack of Walla Walla and Richard Freudenberg of Liberty Lake. Independents candidates include Nate Powell, Matthew Hayes and Kyle Ursey of Spokane and Ann Marie Danimus and Andrew Bartleson of Spokane Valley. Democratic candidate Mike Gahvarehchee of Spokane withdrew from the race.
