CHEWELAH — Eighthgrade pitcher Westin Hedrick was having a good game for the Selkirk Rangers against Wilbur-Creston- Keller, striking out seven and walking one batter in 4.1 innings. When he ran out of allotted pitches, Selkirk was up 3-1 in the top of the fourth inning.

After a scoreless fifth inning, the Rangers scored one to go ahead 4-1. But WKC bats came alive in the bottom of the fifth, scoring 4 runs to take the lead. The Rangers battled back, scoring 4 runs of their own to take an 8-5 lead. WKC scored 3 in the bottom of the inning to tie the game.

The Rangers got another score in the tip of the seventh to retake the lead, but WKC got 2 runs in the bottom to win the key loser-out game.

Cameron Kulczyk went 3-for-4 at bat for the Rangers. Hedrick, Kipton Corkhill, Cade Johnson, Kyson Johnson, Caden Pichette, Ryan Pichette and Josiah Vanmeer also all got hits.

The Rangers finished the season in second place in the Northeast 1B North division, with an 8-10, 6-5 record.

Spartan golfers place ninth at state

PAYETTE — The Priest River Lamanna High School golf team placed ninth out of 15 scoring teams at the 3A State Championship, held Monday, May 11 and Tuesday, May 12 at Scotch Pines Golf Course in Payette.

Priest River scored a total of 726.

Individually, Nate Fegert tied 23rd out of 82 golfers with a total gross 29-over-par 173. Dawson Strange tied for 44th with 183, Mason Fenderson for 49th with 185 and Parker Bradbury for 54th with 187. Mason Crump scored 191.

Panthers place high at Sub-Districts

CUSICK – Cusick attended the NE 1B Sub-District Qualifier at Valley Christian School Tuesday, May 12 with junior Richard Sandwick winning first place in the boys’ 1600-meter race at 4:42.26. He won third in the 3200-meter at 11:02.23. Sandwick went on to take fourth in the 800-meter, clocking in at 2:11.82. Freshman Zach McGuire finished 11th in the 200-meter, followed by classmate Isaac Sima in 12th. McGuire went on to crack the top 10 in the 400-meter, finishing ninth with a PB of 59.80, followed by eighth grader Marshal Eveland in 10th place at 1:01.32.

In boys’ field events senior Ondrej Suchanek won third in shot put with a PB of 38 feet, 2.5 inches. Davis took third place in the discus, throwing 119 feet, 11 inches. Suchanek followed in seventh place with a PB of 95 feet, 8.75 inches. Freshman Wesley McGuire took eighth in javelin with a PB of 103 feet, 11 inches. Eveland placed eighth in the long jump, reaching a PB of 16-feet, 6.5-inches.

Up next, the Panthers are off to the 1B District 6 Championships at Valley Christian School Wednesday, May 20.
