Weekly Compassion Every Day classes begin June 2

NEWPORT - Nuns Thubten Damcho and Thubten Rinchen from Sravasti Abbey Buddhist Monastery will give a weekly class on “Compassion Every Day,” offering practical ways to develop peace of mind through daily acts of kindness.

The class meets on Tuesdays, June 2 through Sept. 8, 6:30 – 8 p.m., in the Newport Conference Room of the PUD Administration Building, located at 130 N. Washington Avenue, Newport (enter off Pine Street).

There is no charge or advance registration, and offerings are welcomed.

The class is based on the book “An Open-Hearted Life: Transformative Methods for Compassionate Living from a Clinical Psychologist and a Buddhist Nun.” It is co-written by Buddhist teacher and author, Venerable Thubten Chodron, and Eastern Washington University professor and clinical psychologist, Russell Kolts.

Both facilitators have studied Buddhist psychology and meditation for many years and have taught in Spokane and other cities. The class includes guided meditation and group discussion to help people of all backgrounds bring greater kindness into their daily experience.

The class is open to all, and no meditation background is needed.

Drop-ins are welcomed.
