Voters choose Herndon, new Bonner commissioner

SANDPOINT — In the highest-profile Republican race of this year’s primary election, incumbent Jim Woodward was defeated by Scott Herndon for District 1 state senator.

Herndon received 6,360 votes to 5,584 for Woodward, or 53.25% to 46.75%.

This marks the third time the two have run against each other, with Herndon reclaiming the Republican nomination for the first time since 2022.

In the Republican race for District 1 Seat A state representative, Jane Sauter received 6,326 votes, or 53.61%. Incumbent Mark Sauter only received 5,475, or 46.39%, despite defeating Jane Sauter in 2024. There is no relation between the two.

Incumbent Cornel Rasor won the Republican race for District 1 Seat B state representative, defeating Chuck Lowman again 7,316-4,299, or 62.99% to 37.01%.

Incumbent Dale Hawkins also defended his seat as District 2 Seat B state representative, defeating Todd Perry 1,212-174, or 87.45% to 12.55%.

In Bonner County Commission Republican races, Jeff Roberts is leading incumbent Asia Williams for District 2. Roberts has 8,141 votes, or 63.38%, while Williams has 4,703, or 36.62%.

In the Clerk of the District Court Republican race, Roger N. Rudd received 7,908 votes, or 68.35%. Spencer Hutchings only received 2,396, or 20.71%, and JoAnne Guzzi 1,266, or 10.94%.
