NEWPORT — Bill Moore returns to Create Art Center for a rhythm healing workshop from 1 to 2:30 p.m.
Saturday, June 13.
The hand drumming workshop is $15, and preregistration is required.
The summer schedule for the Creative Play Date is from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. the first and third Wednesday, for children 8 to 12 years old. Artist Doris Oscarson will guide a variety of artistic designs. The classes are free and sponsored by the Kalispel Tribe of Indians. Pre-registration is required. Ben Kardos teaches Rhythm and Rhyme, an interactive song and writing program for ages 10 to 14. Students will learn about lyric writing and music creation in a group setting and live sound productions. Classes are from 3 to 4 p.m. Thursdays, June 11 and 25. This class is also sponsored by the Kalispel Tribe, so it is free, but pre-registration is required.

Newport youth wins America’s Field Trip Contest
NEWPORT – Newport’s Kodyann Lawrence earned first place in the nationwide America’s Field Trip Contest, selected as one of 125 first place winners from across the country.
Her award-winning song, “Grandpa’s Photo,” honors the gift of freedom provided by the brave men and women who have served the United States. Her message stood out among entries from students representing 42 states and three U.S. territories, reflecting on themes of freedom, service, perseverance, community and opportunity.
As part of her award, Lawrence earned an all-expenses- paid 3-day, 2-night trip to Washington, D.C. for herself and an adult, along with a little spending money. Both her parents and her brother intend to accompany her on this trip.
