Oldtown City Council reschedules meetings

OLDTOWN — The Oldtown City Council is rescheduling their monthly meetings.

Starting next month, the council is meeting at 5:30 p.m. on the second Monday instead of at 6 p.m. Their next meeting is Monday, July 13.

At their Monday, June 8 meeting, the council approved a license for a blanket business soon to hold a seasonal sale and held a license for a new food truck, pending a Panhandle Health District food safety certification.

“We’re still hoping for some new businesses to come in,” Mayor Lonnie Orr said at the meeting.

In other business, the council decided to notify the city planner of a higher- traffic area that needed yield or stop signs due to public safety risks.

The Rotary Club is working on a mural at the Oldtown Boat Launch, said Orr, who attended the club’s Wednesday, June 3 meeting. He added that the council needed to consider raising the Oldtown Rotary Park Building rental fee, as the current rate was no longer enough for maintenance.

Concerns were raised by council members about alleged puppy mills, as the city’s pet ordinance specifically bans them. However, the ones mentioned operate across the state border, out of Oldtown’s jurisdiction.

Toward the end of the meeting, the council moved an executive session regarding city personnel to next month.
