The 2026 Veteran Stand Down was at Newport High School, hosted by American Legion Post No. 155 of Oldtown, Saturday, July 18. All United States military veterans and their immediate family received free services, including but not limited to medical, financial, housing, employment, Veterans Affairs benefits and social services. Showers were also available for those who asked for them, as well as beauty products and free books.
There were also reruns of “The Bob Hope Show” on a large projector screen.
Volunteers are always needed for next year’s Stand Down, scheduled for July 17 at Newport High School. For more information, call 661609-0197.
