METALINE FALLS — The Cutter his hosting an art contest for Down River Days for youth aged 5–18. The subject is “LANDSCAPE” using any medium, with an 8-inch-by-10-inch or letter size requirement. Entries are due Wednesday, July 22, and judging is during Down River Days. Awesome prizes promised, according to the newsletter.
An art camp is from noon to 3 p.m. Monday, July 27, Wednesday, July 29 and Friday, July 31. This camp is for grades one through six, the cost being $40. Projects will involve a color wheel, tiedye shirts, abstract canvas tarp painting and a group mural. All materials are included, including a t-shirt.
There is also a library event, Mobius in the Green Room, Wednesday, Aug. 5, and Final Friday, Aug. 28 with dinner and a show.
The Cutter needs items for its annual auction, Evening at The Cutter, Saturday, Sept. 19. Parties with new or very gently used, auction-quality items are encouraged to reach out to the Cutter.
The Cutter is installing a new front door this year, and the money from the auction will go toward that project. The old door lets in heat and cold, according to the newsletter, and the new door will be an 8-foot like it was when the building was originally built in the early 20th century.
Before the auction, there will be a shrimp boil and ping pong raffle.
Volunteer help is still needed.
The Cutter wants to repaint some window frames this year, so would-be volunteers who are passionate about painting are encouraged to reach out. So far this year, 77 volunteers have contributed over 2,000 hours to the Cutter, helping to save on costs associated with a larger, paid staff. The Cutter has no paid full-time employees, only some part-time staff, and maintaining the building is a costly process.
