BRIEFLY Coming up at Create

NEWPORT — Create Art Center’s Summer Coffee in the Garden programs continues through Aug. 20 from 10 a.m. to noon each Thursday morning.

Aug. 6 will feature Bill Moore and Rhythm Healing drummers. Aug. 13 brings Kim Markstone offering a seed bead daisy chain pattern necklace demonstration. On Aug. 20 Gail Rieg will provide education about bees and herbs. Refreshments and beverages are provided.

From 1–2:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16, Bill Moore will be teaching a Rhythm Healing workshop. He shares the science-based research on the practice.

Drums will be provided. Pre-registration is required at Create, 900 W. Fourth St. in Newport, or online at www.createarts.org.

Music returns to the stage at 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug.

23 with the Haywire Band from Spokane. This group brings decades of experience, nine musicians and one vocalist to CREATE. An accordion, fiddles, dobro, guitars, mandolin, bass, clarinet, recorder and drums provide Irish, country, swing, old-timey and world music. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Star Garage Sale proceeds go to ‘the dogs’

NEWPORT — Newport’s Zillah Chapter of Eastern Star’s annual charity garage sale is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, July 31 and Saturday, Aug 1 at 126 N. Fea Ave., in the alley behind the house.

Each year the proceeds go to a project sponsored statewide; this year’s sale benefits Brigadoon Service Dogs in Bellingham. All purchases are by donation.

Grand Chapter of Washington, OES is a diamond sponsor of the program which provides service dogs throughout the Pacific Northwest. Trained by inmates in the Washington state prison system, Brigadoon provides trained service dogs for veterans, children and adults with physical, developmental and behavioral health disabilities to promote a more independent and enriched life.

Fun day for adults at Artscape

METALINE FALLS — The Artscape Program at the Cutter Theatre is hosting an “Adult +50 Fun Day” from noon to 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7.

The event will be in the Green Room at the Cutter Theatre and is free to all attending; donations to support the Artscape Program are welcome.

Tables with board games, puzzles and cards are available, as well as tables with crafts, model building, watercolors, crochet and knitting, a gentle physical fitness area, a book swap and library resource table. Door prizes will be awarded every half-hour, with snacks and light beverages available. An RSVP to the Cutter would be appreciated but is not necessary.

“Gather up all the wrinkly and grey-haired folks you know and beat the heat with a fun afternoon with Linnea and friends,” a press release from the Cutter read.

Pow-Wow celebration coming up

USK — The 49th Annual Kalispel Tribe Pow-Wow will take place from Friday, July 31, to Sunday, Aug. 2, in Usk with Campers’ Night on Thursday, July 30. This celebration honors the traditions and culture of the Kalispel people and welcomes visitors from near and far.

Families and individuals are invited to this free event, and respectful photography of dancers and singers is appreciated. To ensure a safe environment, no drugs or alcohol are permitted.

The celebration will begin when the first Grand Entry starts at 7 p.m. July 31 and will conclude Aug. 2 around 7:30 p.m. after the announcement of contest winners. There will be two more Grand Entries Aug.

1, at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m., and a fourth Grand Entry at 1 p.m., Aug. 2.
