SANDPOINT — The Music Conservatory of Sandpoint announces the beginning of the second session of its Summer Academy on Monday, Aug. 3.
“MCS has held its summer academy for over 15 years. Part of the excitement used to be Music Without Borders, which is now MCS Global, when students from other countries came to join the orchestra,” said Karin Wedemeyer, founder and artistic director. “We look forward to continuing this next year with maestro Jan Pellant conducting. It is our goal to continue to expand the Summer Academy with master classes, live performances and more classes offered.”
The Summer Academy program is offered in twoweek sessions, and the second session will be held from Aug. 3–14. This session will include the following majors: Orchestra (for 9 years and up with three years experience, requires an audition), Musical Theater (for 10 years and up) and Ensemble Choir (for 12 years and up). Registration is full for the Musical Theater and Ensemble Choir classes, but seats are still available for Orchestra students.
The Summer Academy second session culminates with an opportunity for the students to perform in the Conservatory’s production of Disney’s “Aladdin Kids” at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14 at the Panida Theater.
Additionally, the Summer Academy second session Orchestra and Choir students will perform in the North Idaho Philharmonia’s performances of “Carmina Burana,” hosted by the Conservatory at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug.18 and Wednesday, Aug. 19 at the Panida Theater.
