Elk man arrested for arson, other charges

NEWPORT – A 53-year-old man from Elk is in Pend Oreille County Jail on charges of second-degree arson, DUI, reckless endangerment and outdoor burning. Ronald A. Riek Jr. was taken into custody Saturday, Aug. 1, after dispatch received a report of someone possibly trying to start a grass fire near Allen Road and Dunn Road in Pend Oreille County.

The reporting party stated they were driving on Allen Road when they saw a man throw a lit object out of his car window, according to a press release from the Pend Oreille County Sheriff’s Office.
