Summer program channels Bigfoot for SCC

NEWPORT - The Spokane Community College – Newport Campus welcomed a group of young artists from the after-school summer program, Grizzly Discovery Center (GDC).

As part of their summer program art curriculum, students in grades 1–5 chose to create colorful and imaginative Sasquatch artwork, inspired by SCC’s beloved mascot.

The 30+ students took a field trip across the street to the SCC Newport campus and asked if their artwork could be displayed in the college.

“A wonderful reminder that education and community are connected at every stage of life,” said Rhonda Quandt, Newport Center Manager for SCC. “Their enthusiasm was contagious, and one young student even asked Vice President Jacot if she could sign him up for college that very day.

“Moments like these highlight the power of community partnerships to inspire young minds, spark dreams of higher education, and create meaningful connections between our college and the families we serve,” Quandt said. “We are honored to showcase their creativity and celebrate the bright futures these talented young learners represent.”
