NEWPORT – Those Pend Oreille County residents wanting to be involved in the county’s inner workings now have a chance.
Several positions are open on four of the county’s volunteer boards, listed below. The Library District Board of Trustees has one opening. The Board of Trustees is the policy-making body of Pend Oreille County Library District.
District administration is delegated to the director, who serves at the pleasure of the Board. The board meets every fourth Thursday at 4 p.m. Website is www.pocld.org. Member terms are five-years.
Trustees are limited to two consecutive terms.
The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board has one opening, for an at large member. Applicants should have an interest in recreational user groups including one or more of the following: Equestrian, Mountain Bike, OHV, Hiking, Winter Recreation, Water Sports, Hunting/ Fishing and Wildlife/Scenic Viewing. The board meets monthly to advise Commissioners on matters relating to Parks and Recreation. This 7-member board consists of one appointment from each of the Commissioner districts and four at-large appointments. Member terms are staggered initially, then six years at reappointment.
Meetings are the third Wednesday of the month at 1 p.m. in County Commissioners’ Meeting Room.
The Board of Equalization has an opening for a citizen interested in serving as an alternate member to complete a three-year term expiring Dec. 31. The BOE functions as an appeals board to hear tax assessment appeals and to act as an equalization board.
There is a $100/day stipend per meeting.
The Noxious Weed Control Board has openings in District #2 and #4. This board is charged with the cooperative control and management of noxious weeds, develops and manages Weed Board policy, adopts the county weed list which identifies mandatory weed control, reviews and oversees the annual budget, responds to community inquiries or complaints, and holds public hearings on new weed policy. Meetings are the second Wednesday of the month at 2 p.m. at the Weed Board Office.
