NEWPORT – Newport cross-country is gearing up for the NWC Josh Wright Memorial Jamboree at Northwest Christian High School Tuesday, Sept. 8.

The two-mile varsity run starts with the girls’ teams at 4 p.m.

Cusick cross-country travels to their first meet of the season Saturday, Sept.

5 at Farragut State Park for the Timberlake Invitational at 9:40 a.m.

Spartan boys’ soccer is back

PRIEST RIVER – Priest River Spartan boys varsity soccer had their season kickoff Thursday, Aug. 27 after a two-year hiatus. A canceled season last fall left the team scrambling to rebuild, and 18 young men have stepped up to the pitch including eight freshmen. The game was a tough one against Timberlake, whom Priest River beat two years ago for the first time in history. That was the last time the team was together. Unfortunately, Priest River fell 10-3.

Two of the three goals were made by senior Captain Daryan Haidari, #16, and he assisted fellow Captain Sr. Gunnar Petit, #6, on the other.

The team traveled to Bonners Ferry for a game Monday, Aug. 31. St.

Maries will play at Priest River at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2.
