Lightning strikes above Lake Erie’s shore Thunder heads cease their roar As star reflections float to the lake floor Light winds — waves decrease Thousands of bright neon-like lights flicker Leo flies into the middle of the maelstrom With his flimsy fiddle-like lags a’ flailing Lou the lightning bug is over waters waving His trailing tail lights are a’ sailing Into the deep dark cover of night Lou and the lovely lightning bugs Soft lighted bellies glow Children as they watch See fancy dancing bugs Shimmer and glimmer and glow Spangled sparkles wind up On tiny fingers and wrinkled toes And if children are kind They let Lou and his buddies Go up into a giant bewitching Swirl of light that beams and blinks Into the night - Elaine Magdalene Faires
