PRIEST RIVER – The West Bonner Library District welcomes Randy’L Teton to the Priest River Library Thursday and Friday, Sept. 17-18. The Shoshone- Bannock author of It’s Her Story: Sacajawea, Randy’L Teton was named a distinguished speaker for the Idaho Humanities Council’s America 250 Speakers Bureau, providing a Native perspective on the diverse history of Idaho.
Through her writing and serving as the model for the Sacajawea coin, she is working to reclaim the historical narrative of Sacajawea, the famous Shoshone guide of the Lewis and Clark expedition.
Sponsored by a grant from the Idaho Humanities Council, she is scheduled for two talks.
The first is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Sept. 17, preceded by the IdahoPTV/PBS documentary Sacajawea of the Salmon River Valley, which explores Sacagawea’s history through the eyes of Shoshone-Bannock tribal members. The second will be a children’s event held at 10 a.m. on Sept. 18. Both events will be at the Priest River Library.
Sponsored by the Priest River Community Foundation, autographed copies of her book will be given out to 50 families in attendance. The second event in the September series is Reading Between the Lines: How the Handle of the Pan Came About with Stan Myers Saturday, Sept. 19, 11 a.m. at the Priest River Library.
With a width of only 45 miles at the top, have you ever wondered how or why Idaho got its shape?
Join writer, historian and North Idaho resident Stan Meyers for the little- known history of how North Idaho got its boundaries. This will be a fun walk through some of the more unique history of the state including the boarder survey of 1897. Open to all ages, refreshments will be served.
Writer Randy’L Teton is one of two educational speakers scheduled to host events at the Priest River Library in September.
