NEWPORT – Lady Grizzlies’ soccer had a home game against Riverside Tuesday, Sept. 8 after the newspaper deadline. Newport travels to Northwest Christian and Freeman Sept. 10 and Sept. 15, respectively. Both games start at 4 p.m. The next home game is Thursday, Sept. 17 against Davenport, also at 4 p.m.

Spartan boys’ soccer whips Lumberjacks

PRIEST RIVER – It was a home game win for the Priest River Lamanna High boys’ soccer team Wednesday, September 2, with a 9-1 win over St.

Maries, who just a few short years ago beat the Spartans handily.

Goals were spread between captain Gunnar Petit #6 with two assisted by the other captain, Daryan Haidari #16, with Haidari getting a hat trick and assisting another goal, and Jayden Sams, Noah Keiser, Brody Bushman each scoring once. An own goal topped it off for the Spartans at the lively game in their first victory of the season.

Goalie Ryker Petit had many saves as well as even more on Monday against Bonner’s Ferry.

Haidari and Sams along with midfielder Evon Picardo-Davis have played HS level club soccer in Sandpoint and the surrounding areas, Haidari with 3 club seasons (one each with Albion, Pines, and Strikers), Sams with 2 and Picardo-Davis with one.

Kesier and Bushman have also played club soccer.

The Spartans played St.

Maries once again in an away game Tuesday after the newspaper deadline.

Then it’s off top Grangeville for a game Friday, Sept. 11 at 2 p.m.

Girls’ soccer on the road

PRIEST RIVER – The Lady Spartans’ soccer team is busy, with an away game against St.

Maries Tuesday after the newspaper deadline. The team travels to Grangeville Friday, Sept. 11 for a game at Noon. There’s another away game in Orofino Monday, Sept. 14 at 4 p.m. Priest River will be back at home against Grangeville Friday, Sept.

18 at 3 p.m.

Run, Spartans, run

LIBBY, Mont. – Priest River Spartans continue to build a steady pace this cross-country season, traveling last Friday, Aug. 28 to Cabinet View Golf Club in Montana for the Libby Cross Country Meet. In the men’s 5,000-meteer varsity senior Daniel Gunkle finished with a time 18:43.93, coming in 53rd place.

Junior Maxwell Hewitt clocked in at 21:41.46, earning 92nd place. Freshman Ailish McLaimtaig finished in 91st with a time of 27:10.85 for the girls, followed by sophomore Maiyu Smith in 92nd place at 27:18.21. Senior Breelyn Duran came in 95th with a time of 28:38.31.

Next up is the Timberlake Invitational at Farragut State Park Saturday, Sept. 12.
