County burn controls in effect

NEWPORT — Campfires are now allowed in Pend Oreille County, but only in designated campgrounds and only within the Kaniksu region in the north.

All outdoor rule burns, or debris burns, and permit burns remain prohibited. To check specific restrictions for a location, use the wildfire information map online at pendoreilleco. maps.arcgis.com/ home/index.html.

Whenever DNR imposes burning controls on lands within the county, identical burning controls are also imposed on all lands under country jurisdiction.

The following burning controls are in effect: * All rule, or debris, burning is banned.

* All DNR permit burning is banned.

* Campfires are allowed in approved designated campgrounds only in northern Pend Oreille County, in the Kaniksu region.

* The use of gas and propane self-contained stoves and barbeques are allowed.
