Cusick Panthers fall to Odessa

CUSICK — The Cusick football team hit the road and came up short in a non-league contest against Odessa Friday night. The Panthers lost 46-36 in an offensive sprinting match. The Panthers host Wellpinit Friday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. They are now 1-2 overall and 1-0 in league play.

SelPort falls to Columbia-Hunters

IONE — The SelPort football team, comprised of Selkirk and Northport high schools, fell to Columbia-Hunters 48-42 Friday night, Sept. 18.

This was the SelPort Lumberjacks’ first loss of the season.

They travel to Curlew Friday, Sept. 25 to play at 2 p.m.

Collins breaks top 20 at CAN-AM

COLVILLE — The Newport High School cross country team kept a slow, but steady pace at the CAN-AM Invitational Saturday, Sept. 19 in Kettle Falls.

Leading the Grizzlies in the varsity boys 5,000-meter was Elijah Sattleen, who finished 78th with a time of 22:18.98. Leif Axel finished 83rd after clocking in at 23:24.74. At 90th and 91st were John Hamilton with a time of 25:29.41 and Acein Johnston with a time of 25:46.01.

In the girls combined 5,000-meter, Olivia Collins led with a time of 22:30.89, finishing 16th. Emilie Baugh clocked in at 26:00.76, finishing 49th. Close behind Baugh was Aurelia Johnson, who clocked in at 26:13.07 and finished 52nd.

Newport next hosted the NE2B League Meet Tuesday, Sept. 22, after The Miner’s weekly deadline.

The Grizzlies run in the 2026 Lake Spokane XC Invite Saturday, Sept. 26 at Lakeside High School, with the girls combined 5,000-meter at 10:45 a.m. and the boys’ varsity 5,000-meter at 11:30 a.m. The following week, they run in NE 1B/2B League #2 Tuesday, Sept. 29 at Short Game Golf Course in Curlew Lake, with the girls’ varsity 5,000-meter at 4:30 p.m. and the boys varsity 5,000-meter at 5 p.m.
