NEWPORT – Indivisible Pend Oreille presents a town hall event Thursday, Oct. 1 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. with Democratic Carmela Conroy, candidate for Washington’s 5th Congressional District seat.

She is running against incumbent Rep. Michael Baumgartner, R-Wash.

The town hall will be held at The CREATE Arts Center, 900 W. 4th Street, Newport. Doors open at 6 p.m. and there will be light refreshments.

Candidate Conroy will speak on her platform and answer questions from the audience.

“Come find out why Carmela Conroy is the right choice to represent Eastern Washington in the United States House of Representatives,” organizers said.

Step In Her Shoes with Family Crisis

NEWPORT — Family Crisis Network invites the community to attend In Her Shoes, an interactive walkthrough experience and complimentary dinner event.

According to a Family Crisis Network flyer, attendees will step into the life of a domestic violence victim, finding the answers to the following questions: What would you do? Who would be there to help? Could you leave safely?

Sponsored by the Kalispel Tribe of Indians, the event is from 5–7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3 at Newport High School, 1380 Fifth St. Attendees are asked to RSVP to [email protected] by Wednesday, Sept. 30.

Free Stop the Bleed class Oct. 3

NEWPORT – Pend Oreille County CERT will host a free, handson Stop the Bleed class Saturday, Oct. 3, from 10 a.m. to noon at South Pend Oreille Fire and Rescue, 325272 Highway 2, Newport. Participants will learn and practice lifesaving skills to control severe bleeding in emergencies. Reserve a spot on Eventbrite by searching “Stop the Bleed Class by Pend Oreille CERT.”

Political rallies at Big Wheel

NEWPORT – Community organization WeCU is hosting two upcoming events. On Friday, Oct.

2, at 10 a.m. WeCU is sponsoring a Conrad for Congress rally in front of the Big Wheel in Newport. People are invited to show their support, speak out, hold a sign, regarding voting for Carmela Conrad in November. Feel free to bring a sign and a friend or two.

On Saturday, Oct. 17, at 10 a.m., WeCU will join the No Kings Vote Early nationwide protest by sponsoring a rally in front of the Big Wheel in Newport.

“We are gathering to stand up and speak out against authoritarian attacks on our democracy and to remind people that America has no kings,” the WeCU press release said. “This country belongs to ‘We the People’ and we have a voice. Feel free to bring friends and neighbors and a sign.”

Both events are meant to be family friendly.
