CUSICK — High school homecoming celebrations are on the horizon. Pend Oreille River Valley communities can show their support by decorating their homes and businesses in school colors and attending various events.
Cusick kicked off homecoming celebrations this week. Both varsity volleyball and football are at home with the Panthers facing off against Columbia Thursday, Sept. 24 at 6 p.m. and football playing against Wellpinit at 7 p.m.
Newport’s homecoming week is Monday–Friday, Oct. 5–9.
Newport High School and Paws and Maws Booster Club host a lunch fundraiser Thursday, Oct. 8. Participating businesses will have a grilled sausage hotdogs, chips and cookies delivered to them between 11 a.m. to noon. Those interested must RSVP a head count to Cheryl Bradbury at 509-447-3167, ext. 4511 or [email protected] by 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2.
Businesses are invited to decorate their businesses in red and black. As a gesture of thanks, athletes, cheerleaders, leadership students and band members will stop by each decorated business between 9–11 a.m. to take a photo with staff.
Each business will receive a 11x17 keepsake poster of the photo. First, second and third place winners for Best Decorated Business will be announced at the homecoming football game Friday, Oct. 9 against Asotin. Those participating in the contest need to RSVP to Cheryl Bradbury, also on Oct. 2 before 3 p.m.
The annual homecoming parade is Oct. 9 at 1 p.m. People are encouraged to line Washington Avenue to show their support for Newport students.
