Concerts, local author events coming to Create

NEWPORT — More music is coming to Create Arts Center.

Just Andy presents a benefit concert for the Newport Creative District and Create on Saturday, Oct. 10 at 6–8 p.m. He plays rock ‘n’ roll, alternative, country and Americana styles. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door, and students are free.

Biblio Mania, a craze for collecting books, will provide local authors with the opportunity to offer their publications for sale. Discover what style of books are written and by who in the region. Nancy Eldridge and Jani Gonzales will host this free event on Saturday, Oct. 17 from 1:30–3:30 p.m.

SCC releases Summer Quarter 2026 honor roll

SPOKANE — Spokane Community College lists 597 students on its honor roll for the 2026 Summer quarter, which ended in August.

These include Rayana Chappell, Krista Face, Nicole Haymond, Kaylee Herrera, Abby Axel, Brett Stigall and Madalin Rowden of Newport; and Ameria Baker of Metaline Falls.

The honor roll lists those students who achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or above.

SCC is one of two community colleges within the Spokane Colleges district. It is known for its programs in career and technical training as well as its apprenticeship programs, but it also offers associate’s degrees, including ones that are transfer-ready for those going into universities. SCC serves more than 15,000 students annually with a main campus in east Spokane, five other locations in rural areas of northeastern Washington and a program in the Airway Heights Correctional Center.

SFCC releases summer quarter honor roll

SPOKANE — Spokane Falls Community College lists 67 students on its honor roll for summer quarter 2026, which ended in August.

Students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or above to be listed on the honor roll. Local students include Saydele Haynes of Cusick and Alyssa Hicks of Newport.

SFCC is one of two community colleges within the Spokane Colleges district and serves over 5,000 students. It is renowned for its theater, music and fine arts as well as exceptional STEM programs. About 60% of its graduates transfer to four-year colleges and universities. Other students pursue career or technical degrees or certificates. SFCC has campuses in west Spokane, Fairchild Air Force Base and Pullman.

Local student makes UA President’s List

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Elizabeth Floch of Blanchard has been named to the University of Alabama’s Summer 2026 President’s List.

Floch was one of 624 students enrolled during the reporting term included on the dean’s list or president’s list, which requires an academic record of 4.0. Both lists recognize full-time undergraduate students. For more information, visit news.ua.edu.
