IONE – The SelPort Lumberjacks – a football team comprised of Selkirk and Northport high schools, continued to dominate Friday, when they beat Curlew 28-6 in a Northeast 1B North League game.

The Lumberjacks are now 3-1 over all and in league play. They are on the road this Friday, playing Wilbur-Creston- Keller. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

Cheer on girls’ soccer winning streak

RIVERSIDE – Delaney Brandtner scored the go-ahead goal in the 79th minute and the visiting Grizzlies (5-2) defeated the Rams (1-6), 4-3, in a nonleague game on Saturday, Sept. 26. Ella Coston had a hat trick for Riverside. Newport had 16 shots on goal and Riverside had 27. Newport goalie Emma Verity made 19 saves and Riverside had 11.

Joelle Brandtner scored a brace to lead the Grizzlies, defeating the visiting Lions 3-2 in a NE2B North/South league game on Thursday, Sept. 24. Moriah Fly and Katie Michaelis scored for Upper Columbia Academy. Joelle Brandtner scored two goals, unassisted and Emelia Wacenske scored the winning goal in the game’s 81st minute, assisted by Maci Brandtner.

Newport had 17 shots on goal while UCA made seven. Verity made six saves while UCA had 15.

The Grizzlies were at Chesterton Academy Tuesday, Sept. 29 after the Miner’s deadline. Newport will host Northwest Christian Thursday, Oct. 1 at 4 p.m. at Ellersick Field.

Ranger volleyball sweeps Lions

METALINE FALLS — The Selkirk High School volleyball team (1-2, 2-3) won 3-0 against the visiting Columbia Lions (0-4, 1-5) Tuesday, Sept. 22.

Selkirk next hosted the Cusick Panthers Tuesday, Sept. 29 after The Miner’s weekly deadline.

Over the weekend, Selkirk hosts Inchelium at noon Saturday, Oct. 3, then Northport at 4 p.m. The following week, they host Wellpinit at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6.
