Friends of the Library meet Monday

NEWPORT – The monthly Newport Friends of the Library meeting is Monday, Oct. 5, 10 a.m. at the Newport Library in the teen room. The Newport Friends of the Library is a volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established in 1976 that supports literacy, programs, and enrichment for the Pend Oreille County Library District. New members are welcome.

Vehicle licensing closed Thursday, Friday

NEWPORT – The Newport Vehicle Licensing Office will be closed Thursday, Oct. 1, and Friday, Oct. 2, due to staffing.

Customers who need vehicle licensing services during this time may visit one of the following nearby licensing offices:

• Deer Park Vehicle Licensing 519 S Fir Avenue, Deer Park, WA 99006

• Ione Vehicle Licensing 208 Blackwell Street, Ione, WA 99139

• North Spokane Auto Licensing 10208 N Division Street, Suite 101, Spokane, WA 99218 Customers are encouraged to plan ahead and visit an alternative licensing office if they need services while the Newport office is closed.

The Newport Vehicle Licensing Office is expected to reopen on Monday, Oct. 5.

POC Republicans endorse Rosencrantz, Hood

NEWPORT – The Pend Oreille County Republican Party endorsed and recommended incumbent county commissioner Robert Rosencrantz, and PUD commissioner candidate Ernie Hood at their monthly schedule meeting Thursday, Sept. 17.

Rosencrantz is being challenged by Republican Brandy Warren. Hood is running against David Bradbury for the non-partisan seat currently held by Curt Knapp, who is not seeking re-election.

Ballots go out in the mail the second week of October and are due back Tuesday, Nov. 3.

Concerts, local author events coming to Create

NEWPORT - More music is coming to Create Arts Center. ‘Just Andy’ presents a benefit concert for the Newport Creative District and Create on Saturday, Oct. 10 at 6-8 p.m.

He plays rock-n-roll, alternative, country, and Americana styles. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door, and students are free.

Biblio Mania, a craze for collecting books, will provide local authors with the opportunity to offer their publications for sale. Discover what style of books are written and by who in the region. Nancy Eldridge and Jani Gonzales will host this free event on Saturday, Oct. 17 from 1:30-3:30 p.m.
