PRIEST LAKE — Thanks to some community generosity and strategic planning, the Priest Lake Food Bank has finally relocated out of the Lamb of God Lutheran Church.
The Priest Lake Food Bank is newly located at 218 Lacey Loop, which is off Highway 57 south of Priest Lake Elementary. It opens from noon to 3 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays of each month.
“We hope this move will help both the Food Bank and the Thrift Shoppe to accomplish our missions,” a Priest Lake Food Bank Board representative wrote in a news release.
The Church started sharing food about 25 years ago, according to a Priest Lake Food Bank Board news release. Food bank founder Lee Mehs turned it over to a group of volunteers, and eventually, it became the current group’s responsibility.
However, the food bank had to share a working space with the Priest Lake Thrift Shop — a major challenge due to the limited space. So, volunteers found another space with more room that was solely the food bank’s property.
“We were able to buy our own property and starting building on Phase 1 of that project,” the representative wrote.
The food bank is always looking for volunteers and food donations, especially fresh fruits and vegetables. Food donations can be dropped off the first and third Mondays or Tuesdays of each month.
