Close to Halloween Clouds of smoke like braided rope Wash through the dim lit sky Moon is very shy tonight Beams of the moon Scatter through the gloom What used to be a campfire Now a clicking licking blowing small blaze Ghosts of the forest Hear the crunch of leaves Ghosts in wavy white Wrinkled clothes complete with holes for noses Brave ghosts with miracle magic Wave out the blaze Fat pumpkins in the patch — laugh What is left is charcoal ash Campfire expired Last puff of smoke Rose on Halloween Ever higher and higher - Elaine Magdalene Faires
