NEWPORT

Virginia Brown passed from this world on 10-15-2025, she was two months from reaching her 100th birthday.

Virginia was born on 12-14-1925 to Walter and Mary Margaret Gunn, joining her older brother Walter and her twin sister Barbara. The family was raised on the south hill in Spokane. Virginia graduated from Lewis and Clark High School.

It was shortly after her graduation that she met her future husband Raymond who was stationed at Farragut Naval Training station. Virginia waited for Ray to return from his 4-year commitment to the navy and his theater of the South Pacific during World War II. Shortly after his return Virginia and Ray married and moved to the Seattle area for Ray to complete his education that was interrupted by World War II. Virginia attended the University of Washington while Ray was finishing his degrees.

They moved to Ouincy Washington. Ray was a teacher and coach in Ouincy while Virginia was busy tending to their children Sharon born in 1953, and Patrick, born in 1955. They moved to Newport, Washington in 1960 where Ray was the high school principal. Their third child Tim was born in Newport in 1961.

Virginia completed her education degree at Eastern Washington State College and embarked on her own teaching career spent in its entirety at Priest River Elementary school from 1968 until her retirement in 1987. She touched countless student lives during her tenure as a math and science teacher.

Following her retirement after Ray’s passing in 1985 Virginia devoted many hours to the Altar Society at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Newport. She spent her time and talents sewing and quilting with the purpose of providing blankets and warm things to those in need. She was also involved in many card groups. She made time to travel extensively visiting the Holy Lands and several religious sites throughout Europe, the UK and Ireland.

Virgina left a lasting legacy in Newport and Priest River and will be greatly missed by her family and friends which she held so dear.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Raymond, her parents, her brother Walter and her twin sister Barbara. Virginia is survived by her children Sharon Linquist, Pat Brown, and Tim (Kris) Brown. If you'd like to share a memory or a smile of Virginia, there will be a reception at Kelly’s at noon on the 29th of October following her internment.
