SPOKANE

John James 'Jack” Konsbruck died on October 30th in Spokane, born there October 4, 1947 to John & Helen (Garrett) Konsbruck. He grew up in the outdoors hunting, fishing, camping and playing sports. He was an Eagle Scout, the highest award in Boy Scouts.

Jack studied Electrical Engineering at the Chicago DeVry | Institute of Technology and SCC. In 1968, he married his childhood sweetheart, having four children. His career included Otis Elevator, Prudhoe Bay, and Box Canyon Dam PUD. He served with honor in the Army Reserves.

Jack loved his family, his cats, and his Mustang-not always in that order. He didn’t collect friends, he cherished them. A lifelong learner, he was a self-taught geologist and respected expert for the NE corner of Washington. An avid reader and seeker of knowledge, with the mind of a scientist and the heart of a poet, he loved engaging in philosophical discussions on every subject, a true renaissance man. He was kind, gentle and giving.

Jack relished solitude but was a natural storyteller with many adventures to share. Croquet, horseshoes, fireworks and loud Pink Floyd were favorites.

He had a special bond with children because he loved to play. His smile lit up a room. Jack believed that the most important thing in life is compassion and spent his later years trying not to harm any living creature.

He suffered the loss of his 2 sons, David (2024), Jimmy (2011) and newborn grandson James Wesley (2016). He's survived by 2 daughters, Carrie Cahalan and Rebecca Hamilton, ex-wife/best friend, Dorothy Konsbruck, sister Cathy Shelton, 6 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A memorial will be held next year. Donations to your local animal rescue would make him smile.
