James H. Flanigan, 90, Oldtown, went home to be with the Lord on January 12, 2026. He was born October 31, 1935, in Spokane and passed away in Coeur d’Alene.

He joined the Navy/Air right out of high school and proudly served for 10 years.

He met the love of his life, Mary Ellen, in the third grade and never left her side. They had been married for 58 years when she passed away November 10, 2012.

He was a water well driller, a trade he learned from his father-in-law, Leroy Ray. He was able to teach this to his son, Dan, and they were able to work together for many years.

His favorite place to spend his free time was at the family lake cabin on upper Twin Lakes.

He is survived by his children: Daniel (Karen) Flanigan; Colleen (Glen) Akins; Maureen (Glen) Carey; Jamie (Matthew) Ray; and Mary Ellen Flanigan, plus many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his oldest daughter, Kathleen Ely.

A funeral mass will be held Friday, January 23rd at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 612 W. 1st St. Newport, WA with the Rosary preceding the service at 10 a.m. A reception will follow downstairs.
