Edward Eugene Hamacher was born near Camden, WA to Carl & Ruth Hamacher; and died peacefully at home, in the company of his children, in Hayden, ID. He was preceded in death by his brother Richard Hamacher, sister Ann Holst, and his wife Shirley. Ed married Shirley Reynolds, from Priest River, ID in 1959; and graduated from Newport High School in 1951. They had 3 children: Tina Hamacher (of Hayden, ID), Pam (Mike) Roark (of Chico, CA) and Gene Hamacher (of Sagle, ID). Ed is survived by his 3 children, 2 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.

After spending 2 years in the army, Ed returned to live in Newport, WA; where he met his future wife Shirly, and they raised their 3 kids in Colburn. In the mid 1980’s, Ed and Shirley decided to move out of Northern Idaho, and begin a whole new adventure of running and repairing hotels across the country. During these years, he continued working on his golf game, and kept fishing in the waters nearby.

In 1999, Ed retired and he and Shirley moved back to their vacation home near Hope, ID; and they started traveling south to Arizona, Nevada and California during the winter. Each year they would extend their time down south; and eventually spent half the year at their adopted winter home at Twentynine Palms Golf Resort in California. Ed and Shirley relocated to Hayden, Idaho in 2016, where Ed kept fishing, golfing and exploring with friends and family.

During his final months, Ed was able to spend time with many friends and family members; and was in the company of his 3 children in the weeks prior to his passing. As always, Ed made a graceful exit, even at the end of his life.

A celebration of Ed’s life and adventures will be held on July 18, 2026, at 11:00 am, at the Priest River Event Center. Please join us and share your stories of this good hearted man.
