Calvin Leon 'Cal' Alford
Calvin Leon (Cal) Alford, 86, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2026, at River Mountain Village Advanced Care Facility in Newport, Washington. Born November 26,1939, in Coquille, Oregon, to Everett Vernon and Ethyl Alice (Fisher) Alford, Cal later earned his GED and trained in office machine maintenance and repair at Spokane Community College. He married Ellen Kay Lauzon on May 10, 1958, beginning a devoted 68-year marriage, and soon afterward served overseas in France and Lebanon during his military service. A lifelong provider, Cal worked primarily as a logger and served several local businesses. After embracing his Christian faith in 1976, he was ordained into ministry at New Testament Church in Newport and dedicated his life to helping others, performing weddings, praying for loved ones, and offering encouragement.
He cherished his family, enjoyed fishing and recumbent bicycling, volunteered with Newport Head Start and Early Head Start, wrote personalized poems, and authored The Poetic Love of God.
Cal is survived by his wife, Ellen; children Ken (Anita), Lonnie, Deanna, Everett (Tina), and Jerry (Heather); and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings Edith Pflug, Elmer, Dennis, and James Alford; and great-grandchild Tyler Alford.
A Celebration of Life Service, with public viewing, will be held Thursday, September 10, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Sherman-Campbell Funeral and Cremation Services, 42 3 W. 2nd Street, Newport, followed by a procession and Military Honors at Newport Cemetery.
