Noma Marie Campbell

Noma Marie Campbell was born on March 9, 1948 in Auburn, California, and passed away at age 78 on October 22, 2026 in Chelan, Washington.
Noma lived in many places throughout her life, including the infamous Dalton Brothers' house in Tonopah, Nevada, where Noma had many of her favorite childhood memories.
After living in Northern California and Nevada, Noma and her 4 siblings moved to Cusick, Washington at age 9 after her father Lorne died (1957). Noma's mother, Lucy, wanted to raise her children around the extended family and friends she grew up with in Pend Oreille County. Noma graduated from Cusick High School in 1966, and graduated from Washington State University with a degree in English in 1969. Noma married Gary Driver in 1969, and moved to Newport News, Virginia while Gary was in the Navy. While in Virginia she taught high school English for 3 years. After Gary’s time in the Navy ended, Noma & Gary moved to the Driver family farm in Usk, Washington, and welcomed 2 daughters, Leslie & Jill, to the family.
In the early 1980s Noma became the postmaster at the Usk Post Office, and a couple of years later became the postmaster at the Cusick Post Office just 2 miles away from Usk. During that time she also served as interim Post Master in Priest River, Idaho for approximately a year.
In 1987 Noma took a big step away from extended family and friends in Pend Oreille County when she accepted the job as Postmaster in Winthrop, Washington. Quickly she and her daughters became staples in the Methow Valley community.
In the late-1990s Noma was transferred to the Omak Post Office, and worked there until her retirement in 2003.
After retirement she moved to Vancouver, Washington to be close to daughter Leslie’s growing family (grandkids Avery, Jordan, Birkeley, and Beckett).
In 2014 Noma moved to Spokane, Washington to be closer to her sister Ollie and brother David.
In 2023 Noma moved to Chelan, Washington to be closer to daughter Jill and grandchildren Soren and Astrid.
Noma had a taste for travel, enjoying trips to Puerto Rico and Mexico to vacation, and Edmonton, Canada, San Diego and Los Angeles, California, Palmer, Alaska, and Daegu, South Korea to visit her daughters during various times of their lives. In retirement Noma, Ollie, and nephew James traveled to Scotland for the trip of a lifetime. The highlight of the trip was going to Inverary Castle, home of the 13 th Duke of Argyll of the Campbell Clan, a distant cousin.
Noma also loved to invite the world into her home, hosting exchange students from Sweden, Argentina, and Japan, and sending her daughters off on their own exchange programs; Leslie to Norway and Jill to Argentina.
She loved music and culture, and was instrumental in getting the band Sawyer Brown to play the Tice Ranch in Twisp, Washington. She also took daughters Leslie & Jill to a performance of Mikhail Baryshnikov in Spokane.
Noma loved quilting and sewing, making quilts, blankets, clothing and costumes for Leslie, Jill, and all the grandkids throughout her lifetime. She was a voracious reader and an eternal student of the history of the areas where she lived.
Noma is survived by daughters Leslie Driver-Rowe (Devon) and Jill Driver, sister Ollie Childress, grandchildren Avery, Birkeley, Beckett, Soren, and Astrid, and dozens of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by parents Lucille and Lorne Campbell, sister Linda Anderson, brother David Campbell, sister Janet Roy, and granddaughter Jordan Rowe.
A Celebration of Life will be held on 7 November 2026 at the Usk Community Hall in Usk, Washington. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Usk Community Hall (Address: Black Rd, Usk WA 99180).
